Bird Crazy Birthday

Bird Crazy Birthday card

I just love these birds by Tim Holtz, they are so quirky. I made this card for my nephews birthday.

I used masks and colour cloud inks to create the background and distress inks to paint the birds and accessories. I used the dies to cut out the birds but had to cut the other bits by hand.

Large Birthday Card

Do you ever get started on making a card and it all grows out of control? Thats exactly what happened with my Mum’s borthday card this year. I started out with the new Celtic Dreams collectable die set and cut out 6 of the diamonds, before I realised it the size of the card was 9 inches square!

Tangled chocolate

Today I have another project made using the the autumn poppy stamp set from Chocolate Baroque. This time I used my love of Zentangle to make a card:

I stamped the image with Archival black ink and then sat and tangled the open spaces

I cut the image out and matted on black card. I then cut a piece of white card to fit my card base, stamped the edge with black ink and then embossed it with clear embossing powder (this helps if you get extra spots as you don’t see them).

To finish I matted and layered the pieces and used mounting foam to give more dimension to the main image.

Why not pop over to the Chocolate Baroque blog and see what the design team have done with this fab stamp set.

Favourite Technique with SplodgeAway and the Gelli Plate

Rock On card with SplodgeAway mask and Gelli Pate background

This week on the SplodgeAway blog myself and my fellow DT members are sharing our favourite things to do with our masks, one of my favourites is using them with my Gelli plate.

The masks are great for this, they clean up really well afterwards too. The effects you can create with them are great with both first and second prints. Go on, have a go, its great fun, even your kids can have a go, but beware its messy and adictive!

Here is a card I made using the Hex-o-Star Mask and a topper from a CD by La Pashe.

Inking and brayering with the SplodgeAway mat

Birthday Butterfly made with Clarity stamps and SplodgeAway mat

This week over on the SplodgeAway blog is SplodgeAway mat week and my fellow DT members are showcasing their use of the mat. I have my mat out pretty much all the time as there aren’t many things that I don’t use it for, it is just so versatile and helps you blend in so well. Here is a card I have made for my Sister in Law’s birthday (its ok, she doesnt read my blog – well not that I know of anyway!) I used my mat to brayer the background and then I used the blending tool and the mat to blend the inks on the topper. All the stamps except for the greeting are from Clarity Stamp Company.

O is for Open over at the ABC challenge blog

I cannot believe that it is June 1st already, where has the time gone?? This time last year our lives changed forever with the loss of my Dad who left us far too early at the age of only 62. We still miss him, obviously, but if there is one thing I learned it is that life is too short and you only get one chance at it! With that in mind I was determined to try my hardest to get onto one or more design teams. Here I am now, a year later, on 2 challenge blog design teams and on the DT for a super company called Splodge Away that makes some wonderful products that are great fun to work with.

Around the same time, we started on the long road of trying to get a diagnosis for our son who we think has Asbergers (still on that long road but getting closer to an answer there). Whilst we don’t have a diagnosis as yet, or even bothered what the “label” is, we are finding it a lot easier to deal with his “quirks” and his special way of doing things. The same son has taken up playing the tin whistle and is loving it. Our younger Son has started with a local theater group and has just performed his first play, outside of school, in which he was a natural.

All in all I think we have had a year that Dad and Grandad would have been pleased with, I do believe he has been watching and is very proud of what we have all achieved.

Now onto the challenge over at the ABC challenge blog, as the title says, “o is for open” that’s right Anything Goes for this one and our wonderful sponsors are  Marker Pop and Paper Shelter

I used one of my Gelli plate printed Backgrounds and an image from the Paper shelter called Spring Swing II
